Curriculum and Schedule: 4 Day Camp

March 29-April 1 and April 5-8, 2012
The focus of these camps is alignment for Advanced beginning and intermediate dancers. These camps are 3 full days from Thursday to Saturday and one half day on Sunday. They will be held at the brand new Studio Cooperative, located on O’Donnell Lake Center. This brand new facility has two sunny studios and is equipped with Pilates Reformers. Morning classes include pilates, ballet technique, pointe, and pirouettes. Afternoon classes include the Elemental Body Alignment System, pas de deux, modern, character, lectures and stretching. Lunch is included. Instructors will be Danile Giesy, Scott Putman and Heidi Winton-Stahle. This program will only take about 20 students per camp.

*Elemental Body Alignment System (EBAS) is a series of stretching and strengthening exercises designed to integrate the body while increasing flexibility, range of motion and core strength. The focus of EBAS is to understand basic principles of initiating and anchoring movements from the pelvis while finding efficient and effective alignment through experiential anatomy. This system empowers the learner to develop a consciousness for integrating and articulating body parts while assisting the student in finding a deeper understanding of the body’s integrated kinetic potential.

Special Event

There is an optional Friday evening event to see a performance at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. Sun King will provide 1st Tier tickets and transportation to each event. The March 29-April 1 camp will see the French company, Ballet Preljocaj, perform “Snow White”. The April 5-8 camp will see the New York City Ballet perform a mixed repertory.

Lodging

The Hilton Garden Inn Waldorf is right next to the Studio Cooperative. A group rate of $99 per night + tax per room, including refrigerator and microwave, is available for single or double occupancy. There is a hospitality center with a microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker. Freshly prepared breakfast and dinner is offered daily in the Great American Grill®. Lunch

Lunch will be served daily at Boston’s The Gourmet Pizza Restaurant which shares a parking lot with the Studio Cooperative. Vegetarian, low carb. and vegan options will be available each day. Lunch is included with your tuition.

Getting to Camp

National Airport is about 27 miles from Waldorf, MD, Dulles is about 53 miles and Baltimore/Washington International is about 50 miles away. Rental cars range from $150 and for a week.
