Level of Study
Sun King Dance takes your training seriously and we think you do too. We will recommend the best level for you when we see you and give you feedback about why but we understand that each person is an individual and that we are all here to have fun. Therefore, to an extent, students can choose their own level as long as class is danced safely and the speed of the class remains the same. So, just do your best to let us know where you belong.
If you have actively studied ballet for at least two years, two classes per week, and you are physically fit, you will enjoy a high level of participation. Use this general guide to help you in placement:
Level 2 – Lower Intermediate – 2 or more years training. Building vocabulary and body awareness, correcting body placement and foot work in connecting steps, learning the 9 body positions, single pirouettes, basic jumps.
Level 3A – Intermediate – 4 or more years training. You are feeling confident with combinations, working on double pirouettes, learning attitude turns, á la seconde turns, head positions, beated jumps, adagio on one leg.
Level 3B – Advanced Intermediate – 6 or more years training. Doing complex combinations with change of direction, solid double pirouettes, attitude and á la seconde turns, beated jumps in combination. Using head, port de bras and épaulement.
Level 4 – Advanced – 8 or more years training. Doing long, complex combinations on relevé with intricate timing and directional changes, 2 or more pirouettes consistently, complex beated jump combinations. Refining head, port de bras and épaulement. Incorporating stylistic and performance qualities.
